Trew was a Nuremberg doctor and botanist, and Ehret’s chief patron, naming a plant after Ehret in recognition of his skill. The work’s most interesting features were images of plants not known to the public or only recently introduced, such as the banana and the pineapple, and the cereus cactus, which only blooms by night. One of its other names was the Queen of the Night. Acquired by William IV 1830 – 7 Cat. 183
