This miniature is a rare portrait of Sophia Dorothea, consort of George I. Their arranged marriage was an unhappy one and ended in divorce following the exposure of Sophia Dorothea’s affair with a German nobleman. She was exiled and died after thirty-two years of imprisonment. Acquired by Queen Victoria in 1881 Cat. 190
