This study of a woman was probably taken from a life model at the St Martin’s Lane Academy. It formed the basis for one of the figures in Hogarth’s depiction of The Pool of Bethesda, a large oil painting made as a gift for St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London in 1736. In the Royal Collection by 1833 Cat. 88
