In the seventh hour, the rejuvenated Re is faced with the most terrifying being of the whole netherworld: Apophis, the great serpent, embodiment of chaos and evil. He blocks the passage of the sun god’s barque by swallowing up the waterway. Two deities, Isis and Seth, enchant Apophis using magic (Isis is depicted with her arms stretched out) while other deities apply chains and ropes to the serpent, slaughter him and cut him with knives to release the water.
