Produced in Ekaterinburg, an important centre for stone carving from the end of the eighteenth century, this rhodonite baluster-shaped vase is inscribed with the name Petr Ivanovich Miklashevsky, who was director of the Ekaterinburg Lapidary Workshops from 1859–66. There is no record of the vase entering the Royal Collection but given its date it is most likely to have been acquired by Queen Victoria or the Prince of Wales.

Acquired by Queen Victoria or the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII.
