Catherine II was the first Russian ruler to patronise the Wedgwood firm, and the architect Charles Cameron used Wedgwood plaques in the bedroom and boudoir he designed for her at Tsarskoe Selo, the imperial residence outside St Petersburg. This medallion depicting two of the sons of Paul I, was given to King George V by his cousin Grand Duchess Xenia in 1929.
