Prince Philip’s career in the Royal Navy continued after the war. In 1949 he was appointed First Lieutenant and second-in-command of HMS Chequers in Malta. In July 1950 he was promoted to Lieutenant-Commander and in September he was appointed in command of the frigate HMS Magpie. He is depicted here with the other Wardroom officers on board HMS Magpie.
