When The Queen became Colonel-in-Chief of the Grenadier Guards on her accession in 1952, this tunic was created by the equestrian and livery tailors, Bernard Weatherill. The Queen wore this tunic and hat annually for Trooping the Colour until 1986. The tunic closely matches that of the Guards regiments but is cut-away from the waist to allow The Queen to ride side-saddle. Thaarup’s ingenious close-fitting hat incorporates a sculpted tricorn detail at the front into which the regimental plume is fitted.
