Worn for official portraits by Baron Studios, taken in 1956. Hartnell repeats the successful combination of oyster duchesse satin embellished in tones of gold and silver. The embellishment includes stylised foliate motifs, padded and appliqued with gold lamé in imitation of the ancient technique of goldwork embroidery.
