The Roman Tribune of the people Publius Mucius ordering nine of his colleagues to be burned alive c.1530-50
-
A drawing of the Roman Tribune of the People, Publius Mucius, ordering nine of his colleagues to be burnt alive. The drawing corresponds exactly with Beccafumi's fresco in the ceiling of the Sala del Concistorio in the Palazzo Pubblico, Siena, painted between 1529 and 1535 and is probably a contemporary copy after Beccafumi's modello for that scheme. (See RCIN 990434 for a study for the ceiling.)
Inscribed at lower right by the 'Deceptive Hand', 'Giulio Campi'. -
