Marco Ricci (Belluno 1676-Venice 1730)
An Italian town with a river, a bridge and a dam c. 1716-20
-
A drawing of a landscape with high rugged river banks and a road from the left leading to an arched bridge over a dam across the water; with a town in the distance. In the right foreground a man leans over a felled tree.
This drawing probably belongs to a group executed before Ricci's departure for the Low Countries, or in the years immediately after his return, c. 1716-20. In this instance the convention for the drawing of trees is the same as in RCIN 905862 and 905849, which suggests a date just after his return.Provenance
Probably acquired in 1762 by George III from the collection of Joseph Smith, British Consul in Venice
