A drawing of St John striding to the right, holding the chalice with the serpent, his eagle by his feet. Presumably a copy after a lost drawing by Parmigianino, also recorded in an anonymous etching inscribed 'FP' (Bartsch XVI, p. 20, no. 5) and an etching by Andrea Schiavone (Bartsch XVI, p. 54, no. 28); Popham (in P&W) suggested the present drawing might in fact be by Schiavone.
Provenance
Presumably in the Royal Collection by 1800, but not identifiable in George III’s Inventory A.
