Workshop of Baccio Bandinelli (1493-1560)
Hercules (?) c.1525-50
-
A drawing of a standing male nude with the aspect of Hercules, full-length, three-quarters to left, his right hand to drapery at his shoulder. There is an exact repetition drawing in the Albertina; both are probably copies by the same pupil from an original by Bandinelli.
Provenance
Probably one of the drawings listed in George III’s Inventory A, c.1770, p. 17 (an inserted sheet that pre-dates the rest of the inventory), ‘Diversi Maestri Antichi’, Tom. V, ‘13 by Baccio Bandinelli.’ This is probably the same group of 13 drawings listed on p. 47 (c.1800-20), ‘Michael Angelo, Fra: Bartolomeo, And: del Sarto &[c]’, Tom. III, ‘17 to 29 … Various Studys of Baccio Bandinello.’
