On the recto, two drawings of arms; on the verso, a nude man, half length, left profile. Popham (in P&W 1949) suggested that these were 'later school copies' after studies by Bandinelli for the relief of the Birth of the Virgin at Loreto, citing drawings in the British Museum (1885,0509.35 and 1925,0214.1), though the resemblance to those drawings is not particularly close, and there is no direct relationship between the studies here and the Loreto relief.
Inscribed recto, Tadeo Zuc[co?]. Inscribed verso, Jerom.
Watermark of hammer and anvil in circle, close to Briquet 5963 (Florence 1514-29; Pistoia 1535; Fabriano 1520).Provenance
Apparently from the collection of Jerome Lanier (d. 1659; the inscription 'Jerom' found on several sheets at Windsor, some also with a Lanier star); thus probably acquired by Charles II
