On the ground before the bier are two small figures, one lying and the other rising with one hand raised. After a fresco from the cycle depicting episodes from the life of St Filippo Benizi by Andrea del Sarto in the forecourt of the Church of SS. Annunziata in Florence. 

The church was founded by the Servants of Mary (Servi di Maria) and Filippo Benizi, canonized 1671, was their general superior when Andrea painted the forecourt frescoes.
