After Parmigianino (Parma 1503-Casalmaggiore 1540)
A man and a putto playing on horns 1525 - 1600
-
A drawing of a naked bearded man blowing a long curved horn, and holding another; standing at his feet, two putti, one of whom blows on another horn while holding a cornucopia in his left arm.
The drawing appears to be a copy after an original by Parmigianino, recorded in the inventory of Roberto Canonici, 1632: 'Un huomo nudo, che suona una tromba, e ne tiene un'altra in mano, ha duoi putini appresso nudi, e a in mano un cornucopia, del Parmiggiano' (G. Campori, Cataloghi ed inventarii inediti, Modena 1870, p. 126).
The style of the penwork is unlike Parmigianino's, and may even be German.Provenance
Presumably in the Royal Collection by 1800, but not identifiable in George III's Inventory A.
