Bernardino Campi (1522-1591)
A man seen from behind c.1570
-
A standing man seen from behind. Popham (in P&W) identified this as a study for a figure in the cupola of San Sigismondo, Cremona, painted by Bernardino Campi in 1570. A study in the same style for the adjoining figure of St Stephen is in the Uffizi (inv. 1396-E). The figure, in half length, was also used by Campi in his composition of Christ and the Son of the Widow of Nain (see composition drawing in the Fitzwilliam).
