The Circumcision c.1600
Pen and ink, with wash and white heightening, on blue paper | 25.3 x 16.4 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 990104

After Andrea Boscoli (1550-1606)
The Circumcision c.1600
-
A drawing of the Circumcision of Christ, the altar raised on steps, surrounded by figures angels above. The drawing corresponds (with differences) to a painting by Boscoli in the Duomo at Fermo. Popham (in P&W) was hesitant about whether this is an original or a copy; it appears to be a copy after a drawing in Rome (inv. FC 130600; see Da Leonardo a Volteranno, 1995, no. 49)
