A photograph of a watercolour by Princess Alice showing the separation of the Dauphin from Marie-Antoinette (RCIN 980904). The figure of Marie-Antoinette is shown full-length, standing and embracing her young son. She is pointing at the open door, commanding the guard come to take the Dauphin to leave. Inscribed below: Marie Antoinette in Temple [illegible word] 1858
Madame de Coninck, formally Madame Maria de Hocédé, was the French Governess to Queen Victoria's children from 20 January 1859. Coninck was a favourite of Princess Alice and Princess Louise, who each presented her with an album of drawings (RCIN 981663 & RCIN 981664) before she left to remarry in July 1863.
