Description

A pencil drawing on black-bordered mourning paper showing Princess Alice with a dog. The infant Princess Alice is shown full-length and curled up behind the sleeping greyhound, with both dog and child shown on a cushion.
Inscribed below: Alice & [illegible name of dog in German Schrift] July - 1844.

Eos was the favourite dog of Prince Albert. She accompanied him to England from the Prince's native Coburg when he married Queen Victoria in 1840.
