A pen and ink drawing with wash showing two angels over a sleep woman, possibly Queen Victoria. The angel on the far side of the bed is shown taking away a wreath of thorns, while the other angel replaces it with one made of flowers. Inscribed lower right: Dec: 14. 1862.
Inscribed on a separate sheet below: The Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces. Isiah XXV. II. VIII.
Queen Victoria's children often made cards and drawings for their parents as gifts on important dates. 14 December 1862 was the first anniversary of the children's father, Prince Albert.
This drawing is housed in one of two volumes, compiled by Queen Victoria and containing works presented to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert by their nine children. For other items in the volume see Princes & Princesses album. -
