-
A watercolour with bodycolour showing a moonlit scene after a battle. Two monks and a female figure are shown attending to a pile of corpses in the foreground. The female figure is shown full-length, standing and facing left. She is pulling a red cloth over the head of a corpse with one hand and looking down at his face in horror. She is wearing medieval dress, with long hair and bare feet. The two monks are shown either side of the bodies, to the left. One is kneeling over the dead man with his head bowed, and the other is standing and holding a flaming torch. The bodies of men and horses are shown on the ground to the right, beneath a tree. Two further monks are shown behind to the right, carrying torches, and another is shown in the background to the left. A lake is shown in the background, with forest-covered hills on the distant shore.
