A watercolour showing chalets in a mountain valley. A chalet is shown in the centre of the lower foreground, with three further chalets behind. A road is shown to the left and a river is shown to the right. Steep cliffs are shown to either side, with mountains in the background.
Princess Louise stayed in Pension Wallis, Lucerne, with her mother, Queen Victoria, from 7 August to 9 September 1868. The Queen wanted to see the Alps, which her beloved Prince Albert had visited before their marriage, and her doctors had also advised the Queen that the fresh air would be good for her health. During their stay, the royal party made daily visits to local beauty spots.
This drawing is housed in an album of drawings by Princess Louise. For other items in the volume see Princess Louise Album. -
