Inscribed below mounted sheet: Schloss Rosenau Sept & Oct - 1860 - From 22 September to 17 October 1860, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert travelled to Germany with their second daughter Princess Alice to visit their married daughter Victoria, Princess Royal. They stayed in the Palace at Coburg from 25 September to 10 October 1860. On 7 October 1860, the day the original drawing was executed, Queen Victoria visited the Rosenau with her sister-in-law Princess Alexandrine of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. In her journal entry of that day, the queen describes how "we found a good view, & I made a successful sketch, to my great satisfaction".
