While staying at Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 20 September 1849, when the original drawing (RCIN 980028.aw) was created, the Queen drove in the Ballochbuie forest and then rode up Creag Clunie with her Husband Prince Albert. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes the view from Creag Clunie as "splendid". -
