On 6 October 1852, the Queen walked to the Glas-allt Shiel with her Lady of the Bedchamber, Charlotte, Viscountess Canning. Queen Victoria records the expedition in her journal entry of that day describing how, on arriving at the shiel, they "sketched there for nearly an hour & ½".
