Inscribed below pasted down sheet: View of Brussels from a room upstairs at Laeken - Aug: 13. 1852. Inscribed lower right: VR. del: Aug: 13. 1852 On 10 August 1852, Queen Victoria set sail from Osborne to Belgium on the Royal Yacht, Victoria & Albert. The Royal family stayed at the Château de Laeken with Queen Victoria's uncle King Leopold of Belgium from 12 to 14 August 1852. In her journal entry of 13 August 1852, Queen Victoria describes how she "made a sketch of the view of Brussels, from a room upstairs" on returning to the Château de Laeken after a day out in Brussels.
