A watercolour showing Torquay Harbour from the sea. Buildings are shown all along the shore of the harbour and perched on the cliffs behind. Boats are shown in the harbour, in the foreground. Inscribed below pasted down sheet: Torquay - July 20 - 1852. Inscribed lower right: VR from a sketch done on board the V. & Albt. (July 31.1852) On 19 July 1852, Queen Victoria sailed from Osborne House to Devon with her husband, Prince Albert and some of their children. In her journal entry of 20 July 1852, Queen Victoria describes how they sailed into Torquay Harbour and "Here, we are anchored in this beautiful spot, in this magnificent harbour... Sketched after having taken a little cold luncheon".
