A watercolour with touches of bodycolour showing Babbacomb Bay, Devon. The bay is shown to the right with the sea stretching out below. Inscribed below: Babbacomb Bay - VR del July 19 1852. On board the Vic: & Alb: - Inscribed lower left: Hobs Point. On 19 July 1852, Queen Victoria sailed from Osborne House to Devon with her husband, Prince Albert and some of their children. Queen Victoria records the trip in her journal entry of that day, describing how "At a little after 5 we entered that lovely little Bay of Babbacombe, where we anchored... I sketched the charming Bay, looking towards Tor Bay [sic] with Hobbs Point. The lime stone cliffs are very fine standing out so well against the red earth, with the most brilliant verdure & the sea of the deepest blue".
