A watercolour showing a view of Creag Clunie. The mountain is shown sloping down from the left. Inscribed below: VR del July: 9. 1852. Craig Cluney [sic] from a shooting box. From a sketch done on the spot. Oct: 4 1851. While staying at Balmoral, Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 4 October 1851, the Queen went deer stalking with her husband, Prince Albert and their eldest son, Albert, Edward, Prince of Wales. Queen Victoria records the outing in her journal entry of that day, describing how they "drove to the [shooting] box, close to the Dee near Invercauld Bridge", where there would have been a good view of Creag Clunie.
