Inscribed below pasted down sheet: Pergola - Lower Terrace, Osborne. From the Lower Alcove. Inscribed lower right: VR. del. Aug: 23. 1851. In her journal entry of 23 August 1851, Queen Victoria describes how she "took a walk before sketching with [the artist, William Leighton] Leitch. Finished my sketch from the Lower Alcove".
