A watercolour showing a view of Braemar Castle. The castle is shown surrounded by fir trees in the centre of a valley. A faint hill is shown in the background to the left. Inscribed lower left: Castle of Braemar Sept: 11. 1884.
While staying at Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 11 September 1884, the Queen went for a carriage ride to Invercauld with her daughter Princess Beatrice. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes how they "stopped to sketch the view of the Castle of Braemar". -
