Inscribed on verso: From above Pool Doolie [sic] Don Side Sept: 27. 1881.
While staying at Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 27 September 1881, the Queen visited Don Side with members of her household, stopping at the Poldullie Bridge. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes how: "At Pooldullie [sic], we got out, & climbed up a wooded knoll, just above the road, overlooking the river & a deep salmon pool, & here we took our luncheon, with much appetite... Luncheon over, I made a little sketch". -
