Queen Victoria visited Baveno, Italy from 28 March to 23 April 1879, staying at the Villa Clara on the shores of Lake Maggiore. In her journal entry of 22 April 1879, Queen Victoria describes how she "Took our tea on the balcony, & I sat sketching, till ½ p. 7. The view quite enchanting, & the lights, so soft". -
