A watercolour showing a view of the Linn of Dee. The river is shown in the foreground, flowing down to the right. Trees are shown on the river bank to the lower left and hills are shown in the background. Inscribed lower left: Linn of Dee began May 31. 1875. While staying at Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 31 May 1875, the Queen visited the Linn of Dee with her daughter Princess Beatrice and two of her granddaughters. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes how, on arriving at the Linn, they "had our tea, after which I sketched".
