A watercolour showing a view of Lake Maggiore. The lake is shown in the lower foreground, with mountains shown on its shores. A row of trees is shown to the right and further mountains are shown in the background. Inscribed lower left: Sunday Eveg. Baveno Ap: 13 - 1879. Queen Victoria visited Baveno, Italy from 28 March to 23 April 1879, staying at the Villa Clara on the shores of Lake Maggiore. On the evening of 13 April 1879, the Queen went for a carriage ride around the local area with members of her household. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes how she "sketched on the way back; short of Baveno".
