On 8 June 1873 the Queen drove around the Balmoral Estate with her daughter Princess Beatrice. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes how they "stopped to make a sketch of Loch Nagar, which is still more covered with snow, than I have ever known it at this time of year".
