A watercolour showing a view of the Veste Coburg from the Rosenau. The fortress is shown on top of a hill, with trees shown in a valley below. Inscribed lower left: Vestung - Coburg f[ro]m the Rosenau Easter Sunday Ap: 16. 1876. Queen Victoria stayed in the Villa Hohenlohe, Baden-Baden, from 29 March to 10 April 1876, before getting the train to Coburg where she stayed at the Palais Edinburg until 20 April 1876. On 16 April 1876 the Queen visited the Rosenau after attending an Easter Sunday service at the Chapel of the Schloss Coburg. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes how she went with her daughter Princess Beatrice "to the dear Rosenau, where it was delightfully peaceful & quiet. Took tea in my old sitting room & then I did a sketch of the Festung from the window of another room".
