A watercolour showing a view of Glen Derry. The Derry Lodge is shown to the left, with a row of trees behind. A Hill is shown in the background. Inscribed lower right: Derry Oct: 18 1872. While staying at Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 18 October 1872 the Queen visited Glen Derry with her daughters Princess Louise and Princess Beatrice. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes how they "had our luncheon close to the Shiel & tried to sketch, but the mist came down quite low, so we walked instead".
