A watercolour showing a view of Glen Ey from Altanour Lodge. A ridge is shown in the foreground, sloping down from the left. Further hills are shown to the right and in the background. Inscribed to right of mounted sheet: From Alt - an our [sic] Oct 18. 1867. While staying at Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 18 October 1867 the Queen visited the Altanour Lodge with her daughter Princess Helena and son-in-law Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes Glen Ey as "a splendid wild Glen".
