While staying at Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 12 October 1867 the Queen went fishing at Loch Muick with her son Prince Leopold, daughter Princess Helena and son-in-law Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes how at Loch Muick they "took our luncheon & some of the fish were broiled over an open fire, & were quite excellent... Lenchen [Princess Helena] & I sat & sketched".
