Inscribed lower left: Glen Beg May 28. June 8 1872. While staying at Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. Queen Victoria visited Glen Beg with the Duchess of Atholl on both 28 May and 8 June 1872. In her journal entry of 28 May 1872, the Queen describes how they "Drove... round Glen Beg, taking our tea in the carriage & sketching from the high drive. There was no sun but the hills had a most beautiful deep blue & lilac colouring". The Queen describes driving around the glen and "stopping to take our tea & sketch" again in her journal entry of 8 June 1872.
