A watercolour showing a view of the Linn of Dee. The River Dee is shown to the lower left, with a steep river bank rising up behind. A mountain peak is shown in the background to the left. Inscribed lower left: Linn of Dee Oct: 4 1869. While staying at Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 4 October 1869 the Queen visited the Linn of Dee with her son Prince Leopold and members of their household. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes how they "Lunched at the Linn & sketched afterwards; it was very beautiful & warm".
