A watercolour showing a view of a bridge over the River Dee. The bridge is shown in the lower foreground, with the river flowing below. An autumnal forest is shown on the river bank behind and Highland hills are shown in the background. Inscribed lower left: Oct: 31 1868. While staying at Balmoral Queen Victoria made many expeditions to local beauty spots. On 31 October 1868, the Queen drove to Aberarder with two of her daughters. In her journal entry of that day, Queen Victoria describes how on the way they "stopp[ed] on the old Bridge of Dee to sketch a little".
