A watercolour showing a view of Mount Rigi from Pension Wallis, Lucerne. Lake Lucerne is shown in the lower foreground, with roof-tops and a church spire shown in front. Mount Rigi is shown behind, with small buildings shown on the far banks of the lake. Inscribed lower left: Righi [sic] from Pension Wallis - Lucerne. Sept: 1868. Queen Victoria stayed at Pension Wallis, Lucerne from 7 August to 9 September 1868. The Queen wanted to see the Alps, which her beloved Prince Albert had visited before their marriage, and her doctors had also advised the Queen that the fresh air would be good for her health.
