A watercolour showing a view of the Mythen Mountains, Switzerland. A hill is shown in the foreground to the left, covered in trees. The mountains are shown behind, with buildings shown dotted around the lower slopes. Inscribed below mounted sheet: Schwylz Mythen Sep. 5. 1868. Queen Victoria stayed at Pension Wallis, Lucerne from 7 August to 9 September 1868. The Queen wanted to see the Alps, which her beloved Prince Albert had visited before their marriage, and her doctors had also advised the Queen that the fresh air would be good for her health. During their stay the royal party made many visits to local beauty spots. In her journal entry of 5 September 1868, Queen Victoria describes how "The sun set splendidly & Pilatus & the Schwytzer Mythen, were beautifully lit up in the Alpenglücken".
