A watercolour showing a view of Swiss mountains near Lake Lucerne, Switzerland. The lake is shown to the lower left, behind a thick row of trees. A hill is shown to the right, sloping down to the centre. Inscribed lower left: Looking towards [?Stansstad] f[ro]m [?Alpnacht] Sept: 4. 1868. Queen Victoria stayed at Pension Wallis, Lucerne from 7 August to 9 September 1868. The Queen wanted to see the Alps, which her beloved Prince Albert had visited before their marriage, and her doctors had also advised the Queen that the fresh air would be good for her health.
