A watercolour showing a view of mountains on the banks of Lake Lucerne, Switzerland. The lake is shown in the lower foreground, with mountains shown rising up from the banks. Two ridges are shown in front, sloping down towards the centre, with further peaks shown behind. Inscribed lower left: From the steamer on the Lake of Lucerne. Sept: 2. 1868 - Queen Victoria stayed at Pension Wallis, Lucerne from 7 August to 9 September 1868. The Queen wanted to see the Alps, which her beloved Prince Albert had visited before their marriage, and her doctors had also advised the Queen that the fresh air would be good for her health.
