A watercolour showing a view of a mountain peak near Engelberg, Switzerland. Forest-covered hills are shown in the foreground, with the Spanőter rising up behind. Inscribed lower left: Engelberg - The Spanőter. Sept 2 1868. Queen Victoria stayed at Pension Wallis, Lucerne from 7 August to 9 September 1868. The Queen wanted to see the Alps, which her beloved Prince Albert had visited before their marriage, and her doctors had also advised the Queen that the fresh air would be good for her health. On 29 August 1868 Queen Victoria and her party made an expedition to Engelberg.
