The Queen wanted to see the Alps, which her beloved Prince Albert had visited before their marriage, and her doctors had also advised the Queen that the fresh air would be good for her health. On 18 August 1868 Queen Victoria and her party travelled into the Swiss mountains. In her journal entry of that day Queen Victoria describes Lake Zug as "very pretty".
